After much anticipation, we were finally on our way to
Saltillo.
Everything went just fine until we
arrived at the hotel. To my dismay, Christina, Zack, and I were
given a room on the 3rd floor, but the hotel had
NO ELEVATOR! Even more shocking, the air conditioner
in our room was not working!
After spending a very uncomfortable
night, I questioned God as to why he had taken me there.
I found out soon enough the
following day as we arrived at the job site. The community
surrounding the church was so very poor. NO
ONE
should be allowed to live like that.
I felt embarrassed and ashamed that I had complained to God
about my accommodations. After prayer we started to work.
Everyone worked so hard and no one complained.
At lunchtime, the Saltillo church
members prepared lunch for us. (Lunch was GREAT!) They were such
wonderful people. Right away, I saw the love of God in their
hearts. I believe that when people love other people, it shows
that they also love God. They were humble and so grateful that
we were there.
The rest of the week went by real
fast. I experienced the meaning of being a missionary. The
trip allowed me to appreciate God even more, especially because
He has put me in a church with wonderful people that care, not
only for its own members, but also for other people that need
God in their lives.
By the way, after the 1st
night, the good Lord made sure our room had air conditioning!
HOWEVER, still NO ELEVATOR! Remember- 3rd
FLOOR!
During the evenings we ventured out
into the city. Guess what? MORE STEPS! There must
have been twenty thousand steps; up and down, up and down! In my
life, I had never exercised so much!
We had a few highlights:
-
Fellowship with the Saltillo
church members and their children.
-
Singing and praying with them
during and after the service.
-
And a Cabrito feast in
Monterrey.
After all was said and
done, the trip was worth it. I came home feeling that I had done
something good for the Lord. Would I go again, you ask?
YES!
Thank
You!
